Few spots here and there have been the complaint coming from my 15 year old, Renae, the last few times she devoured chocolate. Maybe she is having a chocolate allergy, maybe she isn’t. Well, today Renae calls me and lets me know of her latest chocolate experience… she eats some chocolate and is now needing a drink, why she picks chocolate milk with her recent awareness of her skin spotting when she eats chocolate, only she will know! She further explains some minor problems breathing. Talk about chocolate overload!
Do I tell her no more chocolate or slow down on the chocolate? Maybe it isn’t the chocolate, but a common additive in her choice of chocolate. Time for doctor advise I see! According to thehealthcarecenter.com:
Chocolate allergy can be triggered by any one of these ingredients not only cocoa therefore you will find that a person who is allergic to chocolates will also be allergic to one or more food items as well such as, milk, nuts or soy lecithin.
Common Symptoms Of Chocolate Allergy
Some of the common symptoms observed in chocolate allergy are: headache, heartburn, hives, skin rashes, rectal itching, unclear thinking and vision and breathing problems. If you have any other respiratory problems such as asthma, chocolate allergy can trigger it.
My candy preference is chocolate. I can do without the sour, sweet, and fruity types. I want chocolate and nothing less then that of chocolate. What would I do if I was in her shoes? My poor Renae and her chocolate allergy. I guess it’s time I set a good example and not eat chocolate in front of her until she gets used to the fact that this is something she can’t have.
