Preschool Diaries: First Day of School

Posted 30 Aug 2010 — by Jennifer
Category Reed Tidbits

First let me start by telling you how happy I am to be able to drive in the carpool once again, I got to her school and my work quickly due to this! Now about Yissie’s first day…

Yissie sure is a big girl and I’m so proud of her. She was ready and willing to get ready for school this morning with no problems. Once we arrived to her school and signed her in for the day, a young boy came up to her with a smile. She immediately walks off with him to the puzzle area and gets started. As I’m putting her things in her cubby she proceeds by quickly telling me goodbye. She was ready to get her day started without me and quickly!

I teared up a bit but she didn’t see this. I walked out of the building assured she would catch on to the required task for the day. I was right. Her dad picked her up later that day and her teachers raved at how well she did for her first day at school.

I tried to ask her dad to put her on the phone so I can talk to her and check on her awesome day at school, he thought that would disrupt the wonderful momentum. He knew she would then ask him when I was coming home up until the point I got home.

I finally got off work and rushed to her. She was so happy. she let me in on the scoop! She played on the monkey bars and the slide. She listened to stories, and had a good time with her new found friends. No more pretend school, no more pretend teachers, and no more pretend friends. Way to go Yissie!

Allergic to Chocolate

Few spots here and there have been the complaint coming from my 15 year old, Renae, the last few times she devoured chocolate. Maybe she is having a chocolate allergy, maybe she isn’t. Well, today Renae calls me and lets me know of her latest chocolate experience… she eats some chocolate and is now needing a drink, why she picks chocolate milk with her recent awareness of her skin spotting when she eats chocolate, only she will know! She further explains some minor problems breathing. Talk about chocolate overload!

Do I tell her no more chocolate or slow down on the chocolate? Maybe it isn’t the chocolate, but a common additive in her choice of chocolate. Time for doctor advise I see! According to thehealthcarecenter.com:

Chocolate allergy can be triggered by any one of these ingredients not only cocoa therefore you will find that a person who is allergic to chocolates will also be allergic to one or more food items as well such as, milk, nuts or soy lecithin.

Common Symptoms Of Chocolate Allergy

Some of the common symptoms observed in chocolate allergy are: headache, heartburn, hives, skin rashes, rectal itching, unclear thinking and vision and breathing problems. If you have any other respiratory problems such as asthma, chocolate allergy can trigger it.

My candy preference is chocolate. I can do without the sour, sweet, and fruity types. I want chocolate and nothing less then that of chocolate. What would I do if I was in her shoes? My poor Renae and her chocolate allergy. I guess it’s time I set a good example and not eat chocolate in front of her until she gets used to the fact that this is something she can’t have. Yissie Hits Preschool

Posted 28 Aug 2010 — by Jennifer

My little baby, Yissie, at three years of age is finally going to school. Every so often she speaks of this imaginary teacher and about her pretend activites with her pretend friends while she was at pretend school. Now she can tell the real!

Yissie is going to preschool. She is ready and starts Monday. She has her new blankie and sheet for nap time, she has her backpack ready, and we recently went school clothes shopping. What fun we had!

I know her first day will erck me! She is my baby. I’m leaving her with kids she doesn’t know and teachers that are strangers to her. Sure, I sat with them and observed how they ‘get down’! They’re still strangers to us, well for now!

I wonder how she will react when I leave her there to go to work. Will she cry, or will she not be phased by my absence? All kids handle these things differently. No matter what her reaction is, she desires this and I’m very excited for her. I’ll let you know soon how all goes!

Careless Parenting & Two Missing Toddlers

Posted 25 Aug 2010 — by Jennifer
Category Reed Tidbits, Taking a Stand
Imagine sitting in your yard and spotting a three and four year old boy and girl, whom still wear diapers, rolling down the busy street appearing hot and sweaty with no parent in site. These toddlers I speak of were found over a mile from their home in Vallejo, Ca yesterday afternoon. Yesterday afternoon was a HOT HOT California day, might I add! These two siblings passed through a busy grocery street parking lot, through busy intersections, passed by what appeared to be a yard sale (and given free items by the lady running this sale), and finally found safe by a concerned citizen of Vallejo.

Thoughts my friends? Why did so many people let these babies pass by them without questioning the fact there was no adult nearby? Makes me wonder  how tight our community really is! I would’ve asked the children about their parents and took a stand! Why didn’t the others take a stand. What if you looked past the kids needing help, even if they were strolling along having a good time, and you see these kids later on the news involved in something tragic. Is it the communities responsibility to be aware and address two toddlers strolling about on a scooter with no adult in site?

I believe it is our responsibility. These two children passed by so many people. These people couldve brought these small children to safety sooner. These kids could have been kidnapped, ran over… who knows. Thank goodness this all worked out! The children were found safe and the father was arrested because one did take the stand we would expect from our community! The children are now with child protective services, hopefully being reunited with mom soon. I read that mom doesn’t live locally so obviously she is probably not the one at fault here. What are your thoughts friends? Please share by commenting below.

Great Auto Resource: RepairPal.com

We’ve discussed the benefits of RepairPal.com before! I’m loving RepairPal.com because I no longer have to bother the husband about trival car facts that may be simple to him. Let us say I need a cheap battery or something is wrong with my water pump. If my husband is away, I can find this information rather quickly without using the husband as a resource when he is otherwise busy. This gives him and I peace of mind!

Another solid reason I like to use Repairpal.com as a resource is that I can find out more information and other consumers thoughts on different types of cars. I’ve recently started looking for a new car for my dad. no I’m not buying it for him, I wish I could! I’m just helping him narrow down his choices. Searching RepairPal.com for a Hyundai Accent or a Toyota Corolla brings to me a web-page of vast information. I can find out owners reviews on specific quality of the vehicle or a written testominy of the great benefits or the features that downplay a vehicle. Not only can I read these great reviews, I can see recall information, common questions and concerns regarding a specific vehicle, and common problems the vehicle may have. This is great information for anyone searching for a new car.

Maybe you’re looking for a close but affordable auto repair shop! It doesn’t matter if I’m looking for help in regards to Chicago auto repair or Sacramento auto repair, the information is there for me as a concerned automobile owner. Looking up auto repair shops in my local area will bring me to a map of auto repair shops in regards to my location and will tell me specific information about each shop that shows up  on this map.

This information is very useful and RepairPal.com is a favorite website of mine. Take a look around, you won’t be displeased. This is brought to you by our friends at RepairPal.com but I’m an advocate of this great website and use it plenty. I hope you find it as useful as I do.

Good Food & Good Times

Talk about a load of great food! Craw-fish and shrimp boiled in crab boil by the pounds, rice vermicelli noodles sauteed stir fry style, grilled oysters galore, bacon wrapped stuffed jalapeno peppers to die for, beef ribs smoked to perfection… the list goes on and on.

Today we had some guest over, just a few! more like seven adults and five other kids… this doesn’t include the eight of us! When I first woke up I felt like I didn’t want to have guest over. I’m so glad we did. We had a great time.

Now I sit here with a full belly and a messy house. Soon it will be time to clean up for the week and pack the food away for leftovers. What a great day with great friends! How did you spend your weekend? Please share by commenting below.
