2561040282_380a613c5dWith recent media on Jaycee Dugard, the young girl that was kidnapped from Contra Costa 18 years ago and recently found, I thought it would be good to share an article I stumbled upon.

Know the Rules…Abduction and Kidnapping Prevention Tips for Parents and Guardians, is an article I found on Missing Kids website that has very important tips we can use in preventing our children from being kidnapped.

Some tips listed in this article are as followed:

  • Supervision & knowing your childrens’ whereabouts

Dont let children go places alone, and if they must, know their whereabouts. I let my 14 year old daughter, at six feet tall, walk one block away to my father’s house. A man did two U-Turns trying to get to her. His intentions, I’m unsure. Lesson here is I let her go alone, and shouldn’t have. Now we drive or someone walks with her.

I understand, not all of us can be with our children 24/7. Maybe, your child walks home from their bus stop. Know their route, it’s noted it best to switch up daily routes, trip up the stalkers! Great, but it is key to know the route they took that day, and that they communicate with you when they have reached home or their proper destination.  If you don’t get your check in call on time, then you can lead police in their ventures direction. This saves the police time in finding possible leads.

  • Communication

Teach your children, role play with them, however you see fit. They need to know they can come to you if someone makes them feel uncomfortable, and they need to know what to do if a dangerous situation arises. Show them how to protect themselves by teaching them to scream, run, fight back, or teach them to cause a scene. Causing a scene can scare a kidnapper away.

These are just some tips that the article has given, that I feel are key. Please read the article and teach your children needed steps to protect them.

Do you have any safety tips that have worked for your family? Do you have any examples of dangerous situations that has happen to your or your child that you can share with us? Please comment and share. Your story can help others. Thank you.
