With the holidays near I know we are all shopping more online each day. I heard today that internet shopping on Black Friday alone was up 35%! When I internet shop I use PayPal if it’s an option. PayPal has always provided me with a safe transaction when it comes to accepting and sending out my hard earned money.
So that you’re safe with your PayPal transaction I wanted to go over PayPal’s safety tips with my readers:
- When visiting PayPal don’t search for PayPal through search engines, and don’t use email links. If you get the wrong web address you may have been scammed that quick. Type www.paypal.com in the address bar.
- When receiving emails from PayPal remember to check the greeting in the email. PayPal will always use your full name or your business’ name in the salutation.
- Look out for attachments and added forms when receiving information from PayPal. There is a virus going around from a fake PayPal. PayPal will never ask you to open an attachment or to download one either.
- Never give someone over the phone or on the internet your personal information. If PayPal needs more information from you they will ask that you login to your PayPal account prior to you entering your private information. “Often, PayPal scams will request details such as your full name, account password, credit card number, bank account, PIN number, Social Security Number, or mother’s maiden name.” Click PayPal Scam from service@.paypal.com for an example.
I hope these tips help you avoid fraudulent activity when it comes to using PayPal. PayPal is a very safe tool in transferring money. If you have additional tips please comment below. All tips are welcome.

@Ali, I recieve scams from time to time. I always double check these things. YOu can never be too safe.
I am selling my vehicle on Craigs list and someone wants to buy it but wants to pay through PayPal and says after funds are sent will send an agent to p/u vehicle. They ae buying sight unseen, am I getting scamed..
I sold an older vehicle on ebay through paypal to someone in the east coast. It worked out great. They had to pay for delivery with a moving company. Make sure you cover all bases. Never accept cashier checks of course. If it sounds shady go with your instincts as well.
