Delicious Food While Weight Watching

Flickr: floodkoff

I’ve recently been inspired by my Mama! Her and I the same weight last winter, she is now blowing right past me at full speed! I started to lose weight first. I’ve lost about 20 pounds since last winter, boy was she proud of me. Well, her and her friend joined Weight Watchers earlier this summer and her last weigh in was 189 pounds. I struggle at a stand still, fluctuating with five stubborn pounds! Back and forth from 200-205 pounds. No lower, and not much higher I sit and weight… I mean wait!

So, you guessed it… I’m weight watching now! I got this book I bought that helps me manage my points but I need to go in full force like her! I’m joining ASAP! This book is a big help. I’ve been eating more then before, but healthier then ever! I’m never hungry and I’m trying new things that I would never thinks to eat. Salads that blow normal salads to pieces. Deserts that don’t make me feel guilty! I’m seeing what foods were never working, causing me to eat more because of their low nutrients still starving me. I have recipes to come… recipes that will blow your mind away.

I know I dont share recipes often, because my lack of measuring! Watching weight means measuring portions. Now I can give you what you want. Yummy, healthy recipes to treasure! Stay tuned.

Good Food & Good Times

Talk about a load of great food! Craw-fish and shrimp boiled in crab boil by the pounds, rice vermicelli noodles sauteed stir fry style, grilled oysters galore, bacon wrapped stuffed jalapeno peppers to die for, beef ribs smoked to perfection… the list goes on and on.

Today we had some guest over, just a few! more like seven adults and five other kids… this doesn’t include the eight of us! When I first woke up I felt like I didn’t want to have guest over. I’m so glad we did. We had a great time.

Now I sit here with a full belly and a messy house. Soon it will be time to clean up for the week and pack the food away for leftovers. What a great day with great friends! How did you spend your weekend? Please share by commenting below.

Our Experience “Around the World in 5 Minutes with Near East”

Getting together with family and friends is my ideal way have having a great time. When I was contacted to host a party for Near East I was so excited. I had never tried Near East products, nor have I ever tried couscous, which is the product they asked I serve to my guest.

I was sent a wonderful package which included many wonderful treats. In this package there was plenty of Near East couscous (Toasted Pine nut)to cook for my guest and they even gave me enough to give some out to guest. Not only was I able to give guest couscous, but I was provided trivets, recipe cards, coupons for free Near East products, and information regarding Near East’s upcoming sweepstakes to hand out to my guest in a nice little gift bag.

Near East couscous

Not knowing much about couscous I didn’t know where to start, however, I’m a good cook and new this would be a fun challenge. I was quite impressed that I could read every ingredient on the label and read the words outloud pronouncing the ingredients correctly. Near East couscous uses real ingredients, fancy that! I ended up making Near East Toasted Pine nuts with parmesan cheese, tomatoes and asparagus. I chose a non-meat option because my friend is a vegetarian, but I did fry skin less chicken thighs on the side to spruce up the meal for the meat eaters.

I had a handful of friends and family attend when I served this nutritional treat, kids and adults! My parents, my good friend Michelle, two of my husbands friends, my husband, my children, and a few of their friends showed up. It was a full house. I knew that my dad probably wouldn’t care for the dish because he is only a meat and potatoes kind of guy. He agreed that he wouldn’t rush to the store to buy it but would eat it again. My mom, who is currently on Weight Watchers program, loved it and believes Near East couscous can easily be incorporated into her diet. Ladies and gentleman, I’m proud to say my mom lost 20 lbs from her Weight Watchers program. I may soon join! Hee Hee! Back to Near East… Michelle loved it as well, and thought she can easily include into her vegetarian diet as well. I was surprised my husbands friends enjoyed the couscous. One of my husbands friends eats Near East couscous often, he let us know that the way we added different ingredients was new to him and he seemed quite impressed. Half the kids liked it the other half didn’t care for it. I think they were more turned off by the pine nuts however.  So there you have it, we will serve it again and more then half my guest will do the same.

Spicy Sweet Limeade Mango Pineapple Madness

I have to share with you the yummiest treat that I was able to indulged in today. I don’t know what this treat is called and I don’t have a clue the measurements to make this fabulous refreshment but I must tell you all about it! Let’s call it ‘Spicy Sweet Limeade Mango Pineapple Madness’. How does that sound to you?

Walking in the hot blistering sun through the auction/farmers market my family notices something really delightful… a fruit cup/drink to die for. I thought to myself, “I must have one and I must have one NOW!” My husband knows how to make me happy and watched as I gazed in the direction of this delightful treat, I all but drooled. The husband hooks me up!

Spicy Sweet Limeade Mango Pineapple Madness

The gentleman making the drink does his magic by grabbing a cup of mangoes and pineapples, this looks like a fruit cup mostly made up of mangos. This guy takes three whole limes… slices them in half and hand juices the limes right into my fruit cup. Then he pours some sweet and sour concoction over my fruit cup. As I watch him I notice that he adds several dashes of chile powder over my fruit cup to spice it up. Then just as you would dispense juice from a punch bowl… he scoops a generous scoop or two of punch and pours it over my fruit cup. He then sticks a fork and a straw in my cup as my husband hands over $5.

This Spicy Sweet Limeade Mango Pineapple Madness was spicy and sweet all at the same time. The chile powder and lime mixed together over my fruit cup was insane. I don’t know what you really call this drink nor do I know how much of what ingredient to add when making such a heavenly concoction. All I do know is I will be making some Spicy Sweet Limeade Mango Pineapple Madness real soon. I hope you can figure out how to make some to. This drink is to die for and quite refreshing on a hot day.

I must forewarn you that this treat is quite feeling to the tum tum so be careful and don’t serve this with a full meal. If you know what this Spicy Sweet Limeade Mango Pineapple Madness really is called please share by commenting below because I’d love to know. Thank you!

Milk the Moment & Win Great Prizes

Milk Mustache Tour

Encouraging Moms to ‘Milk the Moment’

Flickr: jamesthompson

The 2010 Milk Mustache Mobile Tour Urges Families to Build Strong Families. Studies show that when kids eat dinner with their families, they’re more likely to have nutritious diets, healthier weights and do better in school. Research also shows that they have higher fruit, vegetable and calcium intakes than their peers. However, many Americans are still not regularly sitting down for dinner together – and when they are, the nutrient value of the meal may be lacking, especially when it comes to what’s in their glass. In recent years, soft drinks and sugary fruit drinks have been edging out milk at mealtime, but these drinks do not provide the nutrients families need.

What special moments do your family share around the dinner table and how are you serving milk at dinnertime? Milk the moment; the easy and affordable way to help make sure your family gets the nutrition they need. Not sure how to incorporate milk into your daily meals: Click here for great recipes!

How the Reed’s “Got Milk?”

What is more heavenly then a tall frosted glass of milk… with cookies or a simple peanut butter sandwhich! The Reed’s don’t buy soft drinks unless it’s a birthday party, and we don’t let the kids drink juices all day. We mainly drink water and milk in our home because we don’t want our children drinking unhealthy options, which are mainly built up from sugar. You may catch Robyn dipping her peanut butter sandwhich in her glass of milk and then you may see me giving her a reminder to rinse out that very glass! Cookie dippers, milk sippers… the Reeds love milk!

Not only are we providing healthier options for our children by drinking milk, but we sit together as a family for dinner a few nights a week. Doing so builds bonds, healthier relationships, and it encourages the kids to eat and not play at the kitchen table. My father always tells me, “A family that eats together stays together!” Isn’t that reason enough to eat together and to incorporate milk into your meals?
