I've become convinced that the only way to stay in control of my (our) cell phone spending is to go prepaid with the lot. For starters, the contract cell carriers just love it when you regularly change your plan 'cause then they extend your contract! But with prepaid you can really chop and change your usage without any problems. You can even elect to NOT spend money on your cell any given month. And frankly, I see lots of prepaid options now that are all cheaper than contracts, like the one I'm currently using: Straight Talk is available at Walmart and I get 1000 minutes + 1000 texts and 30mb data for just $30! Closest contract is the $40 one for 400 minutes with no texts or data. Plus now I don't have all those annoying hidden charges I had before (while on contract).
