Odd Behavior in the Home

6c116387b843e6feSome very strange things have been going on in the Reed home these last few days! A few of the children cleaned up without being told, and not just once!

It all started Friday night, I told the boys to unload the dishwasher. Robyn asked “Can I just do them?” Umm SURE! She not only unloaded, but proceeded to load the dishwasher as well.

The next morning, I hear dishes’ clanking about, to my surprise, Robyn is doing dishes yet again! Hmmm… I dont dare call her on it, she might stop!

Then earlier today, Yissie had the nerve to write on the walls with red crayon! I was not pleased one bit. Dad was just about to walk in and see red crayon on the wall. Not that it matters if he sees that, it’s just that he was on his way home from a long day at work. Who wants to see red crayon on the wall when they walk in the door?

Low and behold Sinya wants to wash the walls! Great, get to washing missy! After washing the crayon off, Sinya wanted to wash more walls. Okay?! Then I look over, Renae is helping her, and then stops to pick up a broom! What is Renae doing with the broom, of all things she is sweeping! Not only did Renae sweep, but her and Sinya proceeded by mopping, cleaning the microwave, and even helped me cook! Oh no!

What’s a mom to do? Are kids supposed to behave in this manner? They left me scared.

Have you ever seen something of this nature?

Top 8 Twitter Tools

Posted 22 Sep 2009 — by Jennifer
Category All Things Techy

tWe all have twitter tools that better our tweeting experience. Besides the twitter desktop and mobile applications that I use, I have eight twitter tools that I use constantly.

My favorite tools will help you delete all your DM’s, clean out abandoned tweeters, help you manage who you follow and your followers, help you block your spammers, and will tell you just how great a tweeter you are. Have fun with my favorites!

  1. DM Whacker - Gobs of DM’s sitting on your twitter account, and you don’t want to delete them one by one? Using FireFox as your internet browser, you can delete all your DM’s in one hit. Drawback is, if someone is saving a DM you sent them… It’s now gone. No fear you can erase your inbox only, if that’s an issue for you.
  2. Mycleenr - This is a great tool, if you’re following someone who has abandoned their account. This will show you who to unfollow, by filtering their last tweets date. Drawback, it’s down right now!
  3. BLIP.fm - I love this one; let me know what music you’re listening to. Use it, and listen to music while you’re goofing around.  Try it, if you haven’t already!
  4. Twitalyzer - Lets you know if you’re doing too much of one thing, and not enough of another. In the end, be you… But it will let you know if you need to pick up slack if you’re in it to win it. My stats show me I’m being to chit chatty lately. Not sure if that’s bad, I picked up a lot of followers lately. Overall a great tool.
  5. TweetStats - I love this tool for a few reasons. It shows who you reply to most often and who you RT most often. These are people you would want to recommend to others. The best feature I think is the tweet-cloud feature; this shows what keywords you use most often, and what hash-tags you use most often. If you’re a blogger and don’t know your niche… This may help you with that. There are many other useful features. You must check it out!
  6. TwitBlock - Great to rid spammers. This will scan all those that follow you, and then tells you who is most likely a spammer. What I really like about this tool is that it gives you their reasons for classifying the person as a spammer. Its not 100% accurate, I’ve seen a few of my favorites on here. But, it helps me filter out a good 100 or more spammers with just a few clicks. Oh wow, just ran a scan and Brittney XXX is following me again. Block!
  7. Tweepular - Manage your followers, who you follow, and who you aren’t following back. I mainly use this to see who isn’t following me back. I have many that I follow, and don’t need them to follow me back. They are that valuable, but there are some that you follow to connect with. If you reach out and they still don’t connect, this is a good tool to filter those out!
  8. Topify - This is the greatest follow back tool I’ve ever seen. I don’t believe you have to follow everyone back, so I use this. I get an email when I have new followers. I can reply to follow back, or click a link to block and report as a spammer. It also tells you the followers user to follow ratio and a screen of their last few tweets.

Now I do use other twitter tools, but those are by far my favorites! Is there other tools you can recommend to our readers? If so, please share by commenting!

Punishment = No Laughing

Posted 12 Aug 2009 — by Jennifer

Rough housing gone too far…

Don’t laugh while I’m punishing you, especially when I’m so serious! Now you are in more trouble then you thought.

The boys handled their punishment like champs. The girls, that’s a story in itself. Robyn, at 13 years old, is laughing. She can’t contain herself. I appeared to her to be the funniest ever! Then you have Sina, she is the copy cat of them all. Sina, at eight years old, is laughing and she has no clue why.

Now, “follower” and “leader” are in their room until dinner is done, with the TV off. The laughing stopped. They decide to entertain themselves by laughing at people, out their open windo.; “The air is on, and you two are on punishment. Now the window is shut, and you two are cleaning your room.”

“Can I opt out for dinner?” Miss Robyn says. Come on, that isn’t going to bother me. Try harder.

Let’s see what they come up with next!

How to Have Children Clean House in 15 Minutes

Posted 21 May 2009 — by Jennifer
Category Reed Educates

copyIt seems in this day and age there is not enough time to deep clean a home, only time to tidy up the house. There is a fast an easy method that will help your family have a cleaner home, all while spending time with each other.

 1.      The first step is very important. Gather all of the children in one area. Explain to the children that it is time for a 15 minute clean-up.

2.      Explain that they can pick items off of the floor, the table, the counters, do dishes, tidy up the bathroom, wipe the walls, vacuum, sweep, etc.

3.      Explain to them that bedrooms are last. Bedrooms are cleaned in the last minutes of the timer, when there is nothing else for them to do.

4.      Depending on the age, the adult may have to spray the non-toxic cleaners where they need to be sprayed.

5.      As long as the children are cleaning it doesn’t matter what they are doing, exception of the bedrooms being last.

6.      Before they start also explain, that if someone isn’t helping very much that extra time will be added to the timer or stopwatch.
