Teen Corner: Oh the Joys of Honesty!

I’m gonna share a true story about how being honest is better than hiding the truth. I know your probably rolling your eyes and shaking your heads in disbelief, but trust me being honest can save you and your parents A LOT of time and energy.

So as you may have guessed the story is about me. I have this history of telling fibs in order to dodge the consequences (as many of you out there have. Specifically about serious situations involving immature beings (boys). I recently had a problem with a kid that wanted to take being friends to a higher level. He was overly friendly and had bigger plans for the two of us. Plans that not only would and did get me into a tight spot, but cost me a moment of shame.

Now the first thing that came to mind was how to make it so my parents wouldn’t find out about him in any way. The second thing was what extent would I go to, to hide this from my parents? Was I willing to risk everything for a kid I wasn’t even really in to? Of course not! So I took a few nights to think it over and plan my confession, and I did and escaped with a firm lecture. They explained the dangers of lying, but they were also proud I had come to them before the situation got crazy.

So the moral of this tale is, if you  lie you’re not only making your dilemma greater, but you aren’t being any better than the problem itself! So what if you get your social life taken from you for a set amount of time, by being truthful you ‘re saving yourself from a boatload of trouble that would’ve come from one lie.

Parents, if you’re worried that your child might be hiding something from you take the time to approach them gently when encouraging them to come to you. When doing this, you’re making them feel a little bit better about his/her situation. We become more vulnerable to confessing as apposed to keeping secrets.

Odd Behavior in the Home

Posted 27 Sep 2009 — by Jennifer
Category Reed Tidbits

6c116387b843e6feSome very strange things have been going on in the Reed home these last few days! A few of the children cleaned up without being told, and not just once!

It all started Friday night, I told the boys to unload the dishwasher. Robyn asked “Can I just do them?” Umm SURE! She not only unloaded, but proceeded to load the dishwasher as well.

The next morning, I hear dishes’ clanking about, to my surprise, Robyn is doing dishes yet again! Hmmm… I dont dare call her on it, she might stop!

Then earlier today, Yissie had the nerve to write on the walls with red crayon! I was not pleased one bit. Dad was just about to walk in and see red crayon on the wall. Not that it matters if he sees that, it’s just that he was on his way home from a long day at work. Who wants to see red crayon on the wall when they walk in the door?

Low and behold Sinya wants to wash the walls! Great, get to washing missy! After washing the crayon off, Sinya wanted to wash more walls. Okay?! Then I look over, Renae is helping her, and then stops to pick up a broom! What is Renae doing with the broom, of all things she is sweeping! Not only did Renae sweep, but her and Sinya proceeded by mopping, cleaning the microwave, and even helped me cook! Oh no!

What’s a mom to do? Are kids supposed to behave in this manner? They left me scared.

Have you ever seen something of this nature?

Making a Difference; Safe Ground

Safe Ground

Safe Ground

Watching my mama, Paula Lomazzi, her inspiring journey in helping our homeless community, helped me to make an important step in my own life.

I’ve been home with health issues for almost a year. All I’ve done in this time was build more on my family foundation, create this wonderful website, potty trained my baby, and reached almost 1000 followers on twitter (funny, I know).

I need to do something valuable with my time; sure being a mom, blogger, and tweeter is valuable, but I need to be doing more. Knowing this, I signed up on Safe Ground’s website to be more involved. Since signing up to support such a great cause…

I’ve been given a great, inspiring, and fun task. I’m honored to be on top of such a task. I’m working with Costa Mantis, an Emmy award-winning filmmaker, in helping promote his documentary, Live From Tent City: The Last 21 Days. I’m honored, and not just because of his reputation.

I’m honored to help our homeless community in being heard. I’m honored to work with someone who is so passionatte about our homeless community. Visit some of his websites, and you’ll see first hand what I mean. (Costa Mantis Films & Live From Tent City)

Of great importance, I’m in “awe” that I’m working with my mama, might not be directly, but I’m working with her on what is so dear to her as well. If you want to support our efforts you can sign up at Safe Ground’s website, or you can purchase Live From Tent City: The Last 21 Days. Thank you for all your help!

The 9 to 5!

Posted 26 May 2009 — by Jennifer
Category Reed Tidbits

206586412_7214844782_m

My oh my, back to work tomorrow. I’m saddened by a handful of reasons about jumping back into THE 9 TO 5! I’ve been home with my baby since August! Almost a year, time is a-flying! I’m in the middle of Potty Training 101! And bam! I’m off to work. So the process of the potty will slowwwwww down.

Okay, now I  will grip a little bit. I don’t like to grip but hey….

Working means Al has to drive me to work and back each day. Its not up the street. Medically my license was taken from me. I’m better now, well for the most part. But no work means no medical insurance. No medical insurance means no doctors release…. So he drives me each day, there and back…. No peace for him….

Another issue… His kids, Robyn & Jr, we are scheduled to have them Wednesday – Saturday. We are responsible for taking them to school and picking them up on our days. We are now down to one car. I will have my license soon and its only practical I drive myself.. Who will transport them during the week. Side note: Since Robyn become a Teeny Bopper, her and Jr have only come a handful of times. I’d say a good 10 times since this school year started. Not often enough. Another blog on that another time….. With that said, the one car thing isn’t a big deal, by the time they come again we should have another car right? See what we mommies have to think about.
