Field Trip “result in injury/death” Disclosure

Posted 09 Dec 2009 — by Jennifer

My son has a series of field trips to go to, all to the same place, how exciting I thought to myself. I paid for it last week and signed my son’s life away as we parents do with all their school field trips. Seemed like some exciting trips. Not just one, but many field trips! The destination must have great lessons in store for my son.

Today I get a new form to fill out… Now I’m really to sign my son’s life away (see below):

Field Trip

I hope that isn’t too blurry for you (I bleeped out the destination’s name for their protection I suppose)… basically this disclosure says that if my son dies or gets injured I don’t hold anyone responsible, although if my son destroys something during this field trip I’m held responsible! Come on now! He can die on their watch and it’s all good, but if he destroys something on their watch it’s not. What a mess!

Of course, I didn’t sign his life away. I permitted him to go and noted that if the activity can cause death that he must sit out!!! So what if he misses out on the good stuff. I can’t send him out to do the unknowing. ”Here my son, go do these activities that I read my cause you death!”

Am I over reacting? I think not, but who knows. I understand we can die from car accidents, or from strange occurrences… but these are the unknown. I don’t sign a waiver everytime my kids get in a car or partake in a sport activity, because relativity these activities are meant to be safe. But this field trip is another story, they know the activities may be dangerous. I’m a ninny I agree, but this is too much for a regular parent perhaps. I sign forms like this when Renae is going under anesthesia for surgery. I get that, but this!

Parents what do you think? Would you sign this form or handle things the way I did? Please comment below because I really want to know what you would do after reading this field trip injury/death disclosure.

Renae’s Saturday Day School Leads to Suspension

Renae's Saturday School Leads to SuspensionCheater Cheater Pumpkin Eater! Yea, Renae was caught helping her friend cheat on a test at school last week. She was giving her friend the answers to a test and that breaks her schools “code of conduct”! Off to Saturday school she must go.

She was scheduled to go last Saturday, her alarm didn’t go off or she never set it! Not my fault, Renae currently resides at her father’s home during the week due to our move last December. We moved a bit out of the area, and as most of you know my drivers license has been taken from me due to medical reasons… so there you have it, she is now with her father because we want her to go to a good school!

Anyhow she is 14 and quite capable of setting an alarm and getting herself to Saturday school on time. Normally Im a big sucker and would ask her dad, “Why didn’t you check to see if she was up?” or “Why didn’t you wake her up?” I do see that she is capable so I let her learn her new found lesson, SUSPENSION!

So she is at her dad’s house, and he is sleeping… She calls me to get instruction on how to make basic breakfast potatoes. Of course she makes me stay on the phone the whole time through the peeling, cutting, cooking, and seasoning process! Are you serious? Write it down, and call me if you need me. Goodness.

Well, her potatoes are done and now she is in more trouble for leaving a mess strewn about. I guess that is best. She was having to much fun for a SUSPENSION day anyhow!

Note: Just realized it looks like she is flipping us off!!! She really isn’t I promise!

Is the H1N1 Flu Vaccine Safe?

The H1N1 flu vaccine, will your family be vaccinated?

Here and there the media gives me a scare. This video is one out of a few good reports on the H1N1 flu vaccine. Searching the internet, I find information about the flu and the vaccine, but not much saying that the vaccine is safe… More so, I see the world telling me to stay clear away from the vaccine.

Watching the video, I feel a bit better about vaccinating my children. I still have concerns either way. My main concern is there hasn’t been enough testing, and many health professionals aren’t getting their families vaccinated.

What to do? I’m ready to go to extremes! Do I pass out face mask, or chose to homeschool? Yes I’m a scardy cat, the anti-bacterial has been passed out already, and I’ve over educated the kids on proper hand washing, and many times spoke of staying clear of sick children. What to do, What to do?!

Do I vaccinate my children and risk side effects, or do I not vaccinate them and risk the swine flu deciding my families fate? What is your family doing, vaccinating or not?

Renae & Michelle

I told a very good friend about the reedwhatmatters.com today, she is as good as family. She is an oppioninatted one, who sees computer use for her studies and for occasional social networking (myspace & facebook).

She thought the website was a good idea for a family, not for “families”! I get her point, but I “beg to differ”(is that how the saying goes?). I’ve been reading blogs for years on end. Some have good advise, great stories, tips, or I can find myself relating to the writer.

I told her I’m marketable, lol, yes Lil ole me. I’m a large, blended, multi-cultural family. People want to hear what we have to say. Right? (are you there?) HA! Well, she was probably shaking her head at me… She ”begged to differ” at that. Ha! She said my family was of the “norm” these days, but that she would follow reedwhatmatters.com because it’s our family site. She knows us! But the next family, maybe not! Geez!

Well, in the end we gave each other our two cents. We get each other, we agree to disagree. All in all, we’re the best bloggers ever to her… it may be because she will only read our blogs and she won’t get around to the others! I guess that works out for me. Love you Michelle! (side note: yea to you Michelle, follow bloggers cause we all ROCK! HA HA HA!)
