Violent Toddler! Four Prevention Tips

Posted 25 Oct 2009 — by Jennifer
Category Reed Educates

Toddler ViolenceI hear my 14 year old, Renae, screaming, what on earth could have happened? It’s the baby again… The baby woke up and Renae decides to help her down the stairs. I suppose Yissie didn’t want her help. Yissie violently grabs Renae’s neck and scratched her up!

Where does this violence come from? How to we stop the violence in these young ones?

According to Baby Zone’s website there are 4 tips to prevent this violent behavior

  1. Recognize violent triggers and avoid these types of events. For instance in my case, I should help Yissie myself and not send Renae to help knowing Yissie likes to be in control
  2. Keep a watch on our little ones and intervene before the violent act occurs. In my instance, telling Yissie I would like Renae to help her may have prevented this occurrence.
  3. At times aggressive behavior comes from lack of attention, slow down and spend quality time with the little ones. In my instance, I should go spend time with Yissie once I’m done writing this.
  4. If this behavior is beyond your control contact a professional.

These are great tips; however, I should be able to send a 14 year old to help a 2 year old without worrying about outright warfare. My Yissie can’t always be in control either. Punishment is in order. I talked to Yissie about her behavior and she apologizes to her big sister.

What do you do when your toddler is acting aggressively? What tips do you have for our readers? Please share by commenting below.

Candy in her NOSE… Three Ways to Solve

Posted 25 Oct 2009 — by Jennifer
Category Reed Educates

Three ways to get candy out your child's noseOh boy, I haven’t been through this in awhile? Candy in the nose, my dear Yissie this time. It’s been a good 12 years since I dealt with a young one putting candy in their nose. Yup, Renae did this as well when she was the same age. The other kids lacked the desire to have a piece of bright burning candy in their nose. It has to burn.

Well this piece of candy wasn’t too big, she was able to blow her nose and it came out! But what if it didn’t come out… What do you do? Well, I can tell you what you don’t do first! Don’t stick anything in your child’s nose in hopes to get it out; you may push it in further.

Three ways to get foreign objects out of a child’s nose:

  1. Have your child blow their nose by plugging the nostril that doesn’t have an object in it and have your child blow.
  2. Help your child sneeze, again if you can plug the nostril that doesn’t have an object in it. How do you help your child sneeze? Smell a bit of pepper, not sniff, SMELL!
  3. If all else fails, knowing some kids are too young to cooperate, you can cover your child’s mouth and the unaffected nostril, quickly blow (not too much pressure) into your child’s mouth, this is quite effective but is noted best done by a medical professional because spreading infection or blowing too hard can cause complications.

If these tips didn’t work, take your lil’ one to the doctor or call a medical professional. I hope these tips save you a trip to the hospital and another medical bill.

If you have any other tips or if these tips helped please share by commenting below. Thanks

Odd Behavior in the Home

Posted 27 Sep 2009 — by Jennifer
Category Reed Tidbits

6c116387b843e6feSome very strange things have been going on in the Reed home these last few days! A few of the children cleaned up without being told, and not just once!

It all started Friday night, I told the boys to unload the dishwasher. Robyn asked “Can I just do them?” Umm SURE! She not only unloaded, but proceeded to load the dishwasher as well.

The next morning, I hear dishes’ clanking about, to my surprise, Robyn is doing dishes yet again! Hmmm… I dont dare call her on it, she might stop!

Then earlier today, Yissie had the nerve to write on the walls with red crayon! I was not pleased one bit. Dad was just about to walk in and see red crayon on the wall. Not that it matters if he sees that, it’s just that he was on his way home from a long day at work. Who wants to see red crayon on the wall when they walk in the door?

Low and behold Sinya wants to wash the walls! Great, get to washing missy! After washing the crayon off, Sinya wanted to wash more walls. Okay?! Then I look over, Renae is helping her, and then stops to pick up a broom! What is Renae doing with the broom, of all things she is sweeping! Not only did Renae sweep, but her and Sinya proceeded by mopping, cleaning the microwave, and even helped me cook! Oh no!

What’s a mom to do? Are kids supposed to behave in this manner? They left me scared.

Have you ever seen something of this nature?

Jay zI can’t believe my two year old, Yissie. I’m sitting her listening to Jay-Z’s “Run this Town”, I look over at her… Why is she holding up his infamous “Dynasty” Sign (Seen in picture to the left)? I couldn’t believe her. I was laughing so hard I cried.

I feel so horrible I didn’t have a camera ready. So funny though, my two year old only seen the video a handful of times. Don’t you love moment like that?!

Tantrum Two’s

Posted 22 Jul 2009 — by Jennifer
Category Reed Tidbits

At age two, life is very difficult. Being so young, you can talk, but you can’t communicate as well as the rest of the world. There is very little patience at age two as well, so what is wanted must happen now!

The top tantrum terrors within my household are as followed:

  1. So much as say the word “bath” in my home, my two year old will demand I give her a bath. She will have an all out tantrum over the word.
  2. During “Potty Time”, she has an outright fit when she is about to go, all the while requesting a diaper in defiance.
  3. When she doesn’t want her siblings in the bedroom with us, she will demand for them to get out or at least to get off the bed. She won’t stop until they listen.
  4. Let’s not forget, “Peanut Butter!” She must have peanut butter as requested, or another outbreak of the “terrible two’s” are unleashed.
Yissie; Mad!

Yissie; Mad!

According to, Tantrums: Why they happen and what to do about them on Baby Center’s website, the best thing to do is look for triggers and to avoid what triggers the tantrum, to not give in to the tantrum, and to acknowledge your babies feelings.
