Are we at an Elementary Student’s Grade Level?

Posted 11 Apr 2010 — by Jennifer
Category Reed Tidbits

Us bloggers have tools to use in measuring our blogs success because some of us always strive for more and always want to do the best we can in hopes to give our readers the best articles to read! This is our art and we want our readers to really enjoy our work!

Most the tools we use as bloggers usually can make me very proud! Like the fact that my google page rank is at 3, which is pretty darn good for a blog that’s been public less then a year like Reed What Matters! Then, I decide to grade our site with websitegrader.com, woot woot! Our grade is 80%! We’re so proud of that… except that we moved from having a scale of readership to be understood by a high school level to that of an elementary student! That’s fine and dandy, but I like to think we educate you at times! How educating can we be if our grammar is so ‘laxed?

So funny, I don’t mind really that this deal has changed much but I noticed since I started working again my writing has gotten more relaxed and my post are shorter then I like. I still give you my heart when I’m writing it’s just the time factor involved working full time, having a large family, and being a blogger can be difficult!

I love what I do… I’m not going anywhere, it’s just that seeing this grade level difference means I have a little work to do! Bringing things back to the basics and giving you what I got is all I can do. I love writing and bringing to you information to simplify your lives is my passion and reason for blogging regardless at what grade level we are at! Funny thing is, I noticed since being home with my kids for a short time my grammar and vocabulary has diminished a lot, but that’s okay too! Thank you all for sticking around! It truly means the world to me!

One Stop Shop: Car Care Information with RepairPal.com

Posted 23 Feb 2010 — by Jennifer
Category Reed Reviews, Time & Money

Ford F-150Car Care information is vital in selecting a car to purchase, in up keeping your current car, and in being able to find affordable repair services when your car needs attention. A one stop shop for all your needs is RepairPal.com. These days are busy for most of us and we are all trying to save that extra dollar. Just having a good resource for our vehicle needs will help each of us to save time and money.

To show you what RepairPal.com has to offer and to test out their site myself I searched their database for a 1999 Ford F-150. I found out so much about this powerful beast of a truck. Clickable from my search are reviews and ratings from owners showing pros and cons of their experience, a questions and answer forum, common problem information, recall information, repair cost, finding the best shop for your needs, a buyable search, and much more.

I know I already gave you tons of benefits found on RepairPal.com but I’m not quite done. Let’s say you need repairs and you don’t know where to go. RepairPal.com has a directory for auto shops. I set a search by zip code and my car’s make and tons of options came up for shops that specialize in my vehicle. Another great tip in regards to finding a shop is there is an  estimate tab on their tool bar and it takes you to a great tool perfect for car repairs. Search for your car, the symptom of your car, and enter your zip code from the estimate tab and you will find price estimates, advise and the best shop for what you entered in your search.

Just for kicks, my check engine light is on in my car currently. I wanted to see what RepairPal.com could tell me that I didn’t know being I’m pretty knowledgeable about cars. RepairPal.com advised me what it means and gave me sound advise due to my check engine light being on, let me know how serious of a problem this may be for my car, and advised me what could cause my check engine light to be on.

I have many friends and family members that will benefit from this site. I believe sending them to RepairPal.com will change the tone of things in my household. My husband will get less calls from those that just don’t get it and he will find the information on this site very useful. Friends, this is a sponsored post but I truly mean every word I have posted here. Such a great site with so many tools and I wish I had access to this site many years ago. To think of the money and time I’ve wasted searching for the right answers. I hope you find this site as much as a benefit as I do. Please check out RepairPal.com and let me know what your thoughts are by commenting below.

Our Communities’ Racial Divide

Posted 27 Sep 2009 — by Jennifer

Reading the article “Human rights activist finds noose on porch” in the Spokesman Review brings me sorrow. This woman, Rachel Dolezal, who directs Coeur d’Alene’s Human Rights Education Institute, woke up Sunday morning to a noose on her porch. This is horrible. To top it off, she has to decide to educate her son on the matter or to make up some explanation to give him peace of mind; she decided giving him peace of mind was best!

In examining this article further, the Spokesman Review states, a “human rights activist Tony Stewart said racially motivated incidents are on the rise here and nationwide. He traced that to the increasing diversification of the population and to the election of the nation’s first black president”

More to often we are seeing daily, a racial divide among our communities for sure. More often issues are posed as black or white, and not just a people thing. In some ways, our communities are more aware of racism then before, and in some ways our communities are denying the racial divide that is evident in out communities! How do you deny what is in our faces, watching people holding up signs of President Obama as a witch doctor, among other things.

What changes have you noticed in your communities since President Obama has become our President? Are your communities divided by racial tension? Are hate crimes on a rise where you come from? Or is it completely different in your community, maybe your community has come together building a tighter force and now works together in ways that all communities should work together? Maybe, everything is just the same as before where you come from! Please share by commenting what your observations have been in regards to your community.

President Obama’s Education Speech

President Obama speaks on our children’s potential, finding their strengths, ownership, hope, setting realistic goals, issues that students and their peers have, learning from failures, asking for help when they need it, and not giving up.

He further states, giving up on yourself isn’t just about you, it’s about giving up on your Country. Of course, I know first hand people are going to criticize President Obama for that statement!

If you read into it, its important that he mentions giving up on our Country. You fail or drop out, your dream may be lost. The dream you had would’ve benfited your family or others in the community one way or another. Now you not only gave up on yourself, but others too.

What if our historical greats gave up? What inventions would not have been used by us today? What changes would have never been made in the great civil right movements, that changed the way America does things today?

Our children could be the next one to discover a cure for AIDS? Knowing this is what he meant by that statement, Americans should be proud their kids heard such a powerful speech!

How do you feel about the speech President Obama gave? Please share by commenting!

History of Labor Day

Category Taking a Stand

Labor day for most of us, is a BBQ in the park, family getting together, or a relaxing day off of work! Labor day is much more then that.

Many took a stand and made a difference for each of us to have time off to spend with our families, to stop our children from having to work so that they can get an education, to provide fair wages, and to provide a safer work environment.

Watch this video to see just what was done to make our work life as it is today.

President Barack Obama Educate Our Children

Education is fundamental in our children’s everyday lives indeed. Engaging our children to have passion about education and clear goal setting is an ultimate prize for all of us as parents.

My two boys, Jr and Jamarae, struggle with school. Jr struggles due to the processing of the information handed down to him by his teacher, Jamarae struggles due to the lack of drive when it comes to doing the work. Jamarae could really benefit from the President of the United States encouraging him to have the drive he needs.

What a honor, the President of the United States speaking to our children about education. My children see all walks of life around them, sometimes questioning the importance of furthering their education when they become adults. This can be due to our economy, it being harder for all to get a job these days. It could be because there are successful business owners with lack of education, I’m not sure where they get this from…
