Renae & I
This weekend I had a moment of concern and overreacted to say the least. I can now laugh at my behavior but don’t know if I’d have done anything different. The Reed’s celebrated Christmas on Christmas Eve, as we do most years, due to having a blended family. We figure it helps my husbands kids’ mother, and my daughter’s father, they could still celebrate on the day of Christmas with their other family and everybody is happy. Well, I had Renae at the house all week, she left Christmas Eve after our celebration to get ready for their Christmas day’s celebration, and I wasn’t expecting her back for a few days.
Renae pops up out the blue Christmas day, and of course we are all excited to have her back. But, first thing that pops out Renae’s mouth is that her sister has H1N1! This sister lives at their father’s house too. Oh no, for her sister, Oh no!!! Why is Renae over here? What if Renae has H1N1 and just hasn’t shown signs yet? What if the other kids get H1N1? Oh no, Jamarae and I have asthma! Oh no, I start a new job on Monday! I can’t afford to get sick! The baby!!! Poor Renae she was the last thing on my mind, more so because she was already exposed to H1N1, and because she is one who never gets sick and has zero health issues. Still, shame on me!
What to do… I was in a panic! “Renae, get in the shower and take the longest shower you ever had, gimme your clothes, and don’t touch anything in the house… Oh here, antibacterial stuff for your hands!”…”Don’t touch anything!!!” The poor girl took a long shower, and I immediately threw her clothes in the wash hoping to kill any germs she may have. I know she understood, if I thought I knew one with a germ phobia it would be her, I still felt bad.
So I get her dad on the phone, and question his reasoning for bringing “the exposed” back to my home. He lets me know I’m completely overreacting after he finally agrees to me dragging her back to his house until I’m sure she doesn’t have H1N1 herself. I drop her off, and then feel so bad that I turn into a mommy that most would call a “sucker”… All week she had been begging for unlimited text messaging because her grades are up, you guessed it, the “sucker mommy” called the phone company and gave “the exposed” what she wanted, unlimited text messaging.
I know I overreacted but I have to do what I have to do and keep it moving. I’ll let her come back in a few days, and she doesn’t have any symptoms so we are all good. What a mess, don’t you agree? How would have you handles the situation? Don’t be shy, you can tell me that I’m a bit off, I can’t take it.
